Social Media has never been more visual. Pinterest is booming, in fact it’s been in the top list for fastest growing social networks for the past two years, and its core focus is high quality visuals. It’s not only Pinterest though, Tumblr is experiencing unprecedented growth and Facebook along with Twitter engagement rates soar when graphics are used in posts as opposed to just text.
But why should you be investing time or effort in creating strong, punch social media graphics? Here’s just a few simple reasons:
It creates a strong brand image
Don’t you want your customers or readers to recognise your brand at an instant on social? Thousands of images fill up your followers feeds every hour, so it’s no surprise that getting noticed is difficult. So if eyeballs on your social content are so tough to come by, don’t you want the content to be instantly recognisable as yours? This will boost engagement with your brand, improve authenticity and most of all set a degree of consistency that your viewers will get when they visit your website after clicking on one of your social media graphics.
Social media graphics rake in the engagement
All kinds of research exist to support the benefit for including graphics inside social media posts. How about that content containing visuals receive 94% more views than content without? (source). Or that visual content is 40X more likely to get shared on social media than any other content? (source). Convinced yet? If you’re not, you’ll never be!
The graphics themselves are not enough. Purely creating an image (or stealing it from somewhere else online!) is a strategy in itself. Tell me, would you rather be this brand…
Or this one?
Creating a strong visual presence on social media that persists through your blog, website, Twitter, Facebook and all digital channels will help you fall more in line with brand one than brand two!
It’s one of the best ways to own social
Social media is a fantastic tool, but there is a huge amount of noise. On Twitter you’re limited to 140 characters, so your opportunity to communicate effectively is already limited. That’s if your customers or viewers see your post within their full feed anyway! On Facebook, they restrict what is shown to potential customers so much, that you need to grab attention and keep it if a viewer sees your content. Why wouldn’t you take the opportunity to stamp a bit more brand awareness down on anyone seeing your content on these platforms? If someone is viewing your media on one of these social platforms, grab the opportunity to put a bit of visual goodness in front of them, and you’ll be well on your way to creating a loyal reader or customer.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. If that’s true, one image tweet is worth about 7 regular ones!
